Mosqutioes still out in full force
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The hot, sweaty summer days are slowly fading away, but the insect control team is still spraying for bugs you see in the heat.
Even with the cooler temperatures coming around, mosquitoes are still swarming the area. They seem to be the worst as the sun goes down, which is beginning to happen earlier and earlier.
“They’re bigger and more aggressive than the mosquitoes you would see in the spring,” said Dave Jenkins from the New Hanover County Vector Department.
According to Jenkins, the pesky insects are typically present during the summer through early fall, but the recent heavy rainfall completely changed the mosquito breeding grounds. They tend to flock in dark wooded areas and salt marshes.
Insect control teams have had trucks out all week spraying the area.
