Stink bug population growing in North Ga.
UNDATED – You might call it the invasion of the stink bugs. UGA entomologist Wayne Gardener said the Asian stink bug is now in 80 Georgia counties and spreading fast, especially in North Georgia.
Gardner said they’re really swarming in Gwinnett County right now.
“I was in a location near Parkview High School yesterday and they’re just flying,” Gardner said. “I mean, they’re all over you.”
Gardner’s involved in trying to find the bug’s exact place of origin, to figure out how to combat them.
The bugs feed on soybeans, which is bad news for farmers, but they’re mainly a nuisance for homeowners. He said they’re abandoning the kudzu now and looking for a warm place to spend the winter, which can sometimes
mean they turn up in your home.
