Cliche comes to life: Rodents invade cheese business
A Shelbyville cheese business is closed after the Food and Drug Administration served a warrant on Wednesday in order to seize cheese that may have been contaminated by a rodent infestation.
Shelbyville Times-Gazette reports that FDA officials found a rodent infestation in January inside Bedford Cheese Store, as well as other evidence of poor hygiene – such as lumps of used chewing tobacco sitting on the floor.
After notifying the company and receiving an unsatisfactory response, the FDA took action Wednesday. Ninety-six cases of Pimento cheese spread were seized.
