When Pests Become Pests

Colorado’s North Teller Lake has a big problem with goldfish, which are not native to the water and threatening the species of fish, which are rightful residents of the water.

How did these goldfish get there? According to BCSN.TV, the goldfish problem began by people who had them as pets and once they were no longer wanted, dropped them in the lake.

Colorado Biologist Kritsin Cannon said, “Goldfish are not a native species and are very harmful to the local aquatic ecosystem … “we strongly encourage the public not to dump their unwanted pet fish in our waters. It is bad for our environment, as well as illegal.”

Pets are wonderful additions to families. Please be responsible and don’t let them become pests to our ecosystem!
