We’ve all heard of termites, but how many of us know what causes them, what they are attracted to, and most importantly, how to get rid of them? Al.com does a great job of describing the conditions that termites are attracted to.
For instance, particularly in the south, termites are attracted to moist environments. According to Jack Brewer, certified entomologist, “A homeowner can help out tremendously by eliminating moisture in, out and under their house. Termites need moisture. Rain falling off the house and landing around the house, creates good drainage.
Think if you live in a dry climate you are immune to termites? Think again. According to Brewer, “ACs have drain lines; it’s very common to have drain lines right next to the house and that’s constant moisture.”
As always, when treating termites it is crucial to call in a professional. Regular maintenance by a professional to ensure your home is protected and there are no signs of termites is also a good idea. When it comes to termites, you can never be too cautious.
