Back to school for kids and lice

Back to school time always sounds great for the first day or so to a parent who has been home with their children all summer. Until they realize that it is not just their child going back to school. Along with providing our children with an education, schools are also known to be the petrie dishes and breeding grounds for germs and lice.

Lice are trying to stay ahead of humans. There are now mutants that have developed a resistance to over the counter remedies. These “super lice” haven’t taken over the country yet, but citing in over 25 states in the nation causes reason for concern.

Researchers are not convinced that it is time to eliminate traditional methods of getting rid of lice. They say the data is unclear between clinical and genetic resistance to the popular treatments like Nix. The research says that head lice can still die from traditional elimination procedures, the “super lice” might just take longer to reach their demise.

Parents can help prevent the spread of head lice by inspecting their children’s hair regularly, and treating immediately. Following the directions exactly is very important. When used incorrectly, lice treatments can be ineffective causing reoccurring infestations, and over using could be harming to your child.          Check your child often and treat immediately.
