Is there protection from bedbugs?

Scientists have been testing several products throughout the years in an attempt to try to find a resolution to the epidemic infestation of bed bugs. Finally there may be an answer.

A bed liner imbedded with an insecticide that is safe for both humans and animals might be the answer. The insecticide, permethrin, is actually quite common. It has been used in treatments for head lice and is actually in some flea control products for your pets.

One of the theories the scientists are checking are not just killing the bed bugs. But rather scientists are testing how to stop the bed bugs from laying eggs. If they can find the answer to this then of course the infestation can’t happen. So far they are close to an answer. They aren’t sure exactly what the insecticide does that makes the bed bugs not want to reproduce. So far all they know is that it confuses the bugs making them not want to feed. If bed bugs don’t feed, they won’t breed.

The scientists are still working on perfecting the science behind the theory. One major hurdle they have yet to overcome is that some of the bed bugs seem immune to the permethrin. Hopefully the answer to the bed bug problem is near.
