Winter Insect Invaders

With winter coming a whole slew of tiny insect invaders are coming to your home to wait out the cold months. They can range from damaging to your house to mildly annoying, but either way it’s important to know how to keep them from getting in in the first place or getting them out if they do. The best offense is a good defense, so before anything else make sure you have your house sealed up tight. Seal everything from windows to doorframes to vents, and make sure to use weather stripping around all doors.

If those pests still find a way to make it inside your home, one of the best things to do is place sticky traps behind furniture and appliances. Otherwise you can sweep them up with a vacuum or a broom. One of the most common insect invaders is the Asian lady beetle. They are generally attracted to white or grey buildings, and are a bit more orange colored than our traditional ladybugs. Stink bugs are the next biggest pest on the list of home invaders. They tend to hole up in your attic or inside your walls rather than your living room. They secrete a nasty smelling chemical that can also stain lighter surfaces when squashed so vacuum them up or remove with caution.

What pests are invading your home this year? How do you deal with them?
