Here at Bug Busters, we’ve expanded our mosquito service line to include vector control services, to further protect the public health of the communities we serve and stem the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
What Is Vector Control?
“Vector control” is any method to contain or eliminate vectors of disease. In general, vectors can include birds, mammals, or insects like ticks. In our case, our Vector Control Program is aimed at controlling the population of mosquitoes (the vector, in this case) in a given area.
Our Vector Control Programs are completely customizable for your area’s unique needs, though generally, our programs include assessment, surveillance, testing, and treating. In terms of treatment, we often utilize a combination of larvicide, which controls the mosquito population by eliminating larvae, and adulticide, which eliminates adult mosquitoes.
Why Is Vector Control for Mosquitoes Necessary?
Mosquito bites aren’t just obnoxious; they can be deadly, too. In fact, mosquitoes are widely known as the most dangerous animal in the world, capable of transmitting diseases like…
- West Nile virus
- Malaria
- Yellow fever
- Lymphatic filarasis
- Zika virus
- Dengue fever
- Chikungunya
- Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE)
In order to stem the spread of diseases like West Nile and EEE, it is crucial to control and monitor mosquito populations.
Who Do We Work With?
We’re pleased to offer our Vector Control services across a wide range of organizations, including city, state, and local government entities, Public Health Departments, neighborhood organizations, and more.
