Punxsutawney Phil Is Not The Only Celebrity Groundhog
When it comes to listing your favorite celebrity groundhogs, you will find that the list is pretty short. However, there is, of course, Punxsutawney Phil, which is the groundhog that serves as the non-speaking spokesmen for the Groundhog Day celebrations. But maybe good ole’ Phil is old news as he is not the only groundhog to have received some notoriety during the recent years.
One example of a groundhog that has become a national treasure, similar to Phil, would be the notorious Buckeye Chuck. Chuck was named the state groundhog of Ohio back in 1979, so Chuck has got some years under his belt, but he is still kicking.
And let’s not forget about the scholastically minded groundhog reverently known as General Beauregard Lee (this is not a joke). The general has been awarded a few honorary doctorates, including one from the University of Georgia, for the General’s pioneering work in “weather prognostication”, and another from Georgia State University, which was granted for his contributions to southern groundology. Who knows, maybe next year Shamu from sea world will become the president of Harvard.
