Stink Bugs And Other Insects Will Soon Be Seeking Refuge Within Georgia Homes
Due to Georgia’s geographic location in the humid southeast United States, the climate in the state is ideal for insects, many of which are pests that often infest homes. Residents of the state are certainly aware of this fact, as the Census Bureau’s 2017 American Housing Survey named Atlanta as number four in its list of big American cities with the greatest amount of insect pest problems. Atlanta was preceded by Washington DC, New York City and Houston. Unfortunately, an invasive insect pest that was first spotted within the state nearly a decade ago is on course to invade many homes in the state. Of course, this insect pest species is the much hated brown marmorated stink bug, which is known for not only infesting homes in large number, but also for leaving behind an unpleasant odor in their path. In addition to stink bugs, experts estimate that several of other insect pest species, particularly mosquitoes, will also cause problems for residents in Georgia due to recent climatic conditions in the state.
As a result of the sudden emergence of rainfall and warm temperatures in Georgia, experts are estimating that stink bugs and several dormant insect species will be emerging to take over urban and suburban areas of the state this March. The heavy rainfall has loosened up the soil, allowing insects that lied dormant during the winter to emerge from the ground in massive numbers. Insect pests in the state are currently struggling to seek refuge in homes in order to avoid sinking into the loose soil. Despite the forecast of cold weather expected for late March, most of the emerging insects will be able to survive until temperatures warm back up in the state. The rainfall will also attract mosquitoes to the numerous areas of standing water that have formed within residential and urban areas in the state. Pest control experts are recommending that Georgia residents keep their mosquito spray handy.
