Bed Bugs Enjoy Five-Star Stays Just as Much as the Rest of Us
There is a notion that bed bugs only exist in dingy, budget hotels. But don’t be deceived—these bed bugs enjoy one-star hotels just as much as the five-stars.
In fact, bed bugs have been reported in some of New York City’s finest and most luxurious hotels. And the overall presence of bed bugs in the Big Apple is on the rise too, with sightings in New York hotels increasing by over 40% from 2014-2015.
The most recent reports of bed bugs in the city’s swanky hotels include the famous Waldorf Astoria, the Millennium Hilton and the New York Marriot Marquis.
“I stayed in room 2306 for one night,” a Millennium Hilton guest wrote in a complaint to the hotel in 2014. “I found blood on my sheets and a live bug on my bed. I ended up with 60 plus bites.”
Clearly, this is not the type of review the Millennium hotel hopes for. And it also confirms what pest control experts have always known—it doesn’t matter if you pay $20 a night for a hotel, or $500 a night. Bed bugs can be found in any hotel and any highly populated and trafficked area, including airports.
Do you feel there is less of a risk of bed bugs at swanky hotels? Do you take any precautions when traveling when it comes to bed bugs?
