Insect Infestation Nightmare: Dealing With an Infestation of Brown Recluse Spiders
Having to deal with an insect infestation of any kind can be an exhausting, stressful, and sometimes frightening, depending on what exactly has infested your home. I for one am terrified of bed bug infestations and termite infestations. Yeah, those insects aren’t exactly the scariest in the world, but having you house taken over by them is down right horror movie material. So, what if you’re house is invaded by one of the most frightening insects you could possibly think of…say something like a deadly brown recluse spider? Do you scream and simply run out of your house, never to return? One couple was faced with this dilemma when they discovered that their home had been invaded by a whole horde of brown recluse spiders.
Nikki and David Tapscott and their two daughters had the incredible misfortune of having brown recluse spiders infest their home. The entire ordeal began when David found what he thought was just a simple bug bite one morning. In a chance stroke of luck, the couple happened to catch sight of the culprit, one brown spider, running across their bed. After catching and then trapping the spider (who ended up dying along the way), the couple brought it with them to the doctor to identify when his bite began to turn a bright purplish-red color and had expanded in size. That was really what saved them. Identification of the spider is key when a doctor is trying to diagnose a bite, especially when a spider bite can look like a whole slew of other possible infections. Brown recluse bites in particular tend to look very similar to a staph infection.
Being able to correctly identify the spider infesting their home was also what probably saved them from suffering many more spider bites before they realized their house was infested. Brown recluses are especially difficult to discover when they happen to be the arachnids invading your home. Their name says it all. Brown recluse spiders tend to stay in hidden areas of your home, such as in dark corners of your garage or attic, so if they have infested your house, it can be almost impossible to discover. Unfortunately, they are also difficult to get rid of because of their reclusiveness. While the couple tried to save their home and tried numerous methods to get rid of their deadly usurpers, when David got another suspected brown recluse bite, they decided to take their two young children and move to a less dangerous house. Thankfully, their new home is free of all brown recluse spiders as far as the family can tell.
